News

Happy New Financial Year! Well for some of us it’s an exciting time!

I have been quite busy behind the scenes this month and as a result my ebook, The 6 Fundamentals of Life, has been updated. If you have already purchased a copy and would like the upgraded version, for the month of July only you can upgrade automatically by sending a request to Debbie via email at admin@shinewellbeing.com.au. The ebook is a fantastic introduction to the 6 Fundamentals that I coach people through at Shine, which are; thoughts, breathing, hydration, nutrition, exercise and sleep. It has a lot of useful information in there about how each component impacts our health and wellbeing along with a few exercises that you can start doing at home. We are just waiting on a link to purchase the ebook through the site, however if you would like to order your copy today, email Debbie at admin@shinewellbeing.com.au.

This Saturday, myself and a few of my nutty friends have taken up the challenge of running Lady Carington Drive, in The Royal National Park after dark. Lady Carington is a fire trail and 10K. It’ll be very close to a full moon, so hopefully with our head torches it’s not too dark. And the plan is for a victory swim once we reach the Audley Weir in South West Arm. Hopefully all goes well and is a lot of fun! If you think you’re up to the challenge and would like to join in, let me know!

Following the night time Lady Carington challenge, I will be beginning a 30 day detox. It’s a pretty intense system and perhaps not something I would recommend to many clients, but after the research on the product I am looking forward to some very beneficial results. The idea is that without food in the digestive system, the herbs have the opportunity to bind to the build up of mucous which occurs on our intestinal wall, inhibiting proper absorption of nutrients, so it can be evacuated from the body. I have seen some pictures, its actually pretty gross! Foods which add to the mucous build up include meats, dairy and junk foods. Wish me the best as it involves a 5 day liquids only component and stay tuned for more info.

Please enjoy this months Blog postings…

I have recently mentioned the importance of blood typing in many of my recent posts and ezines. Because of this I have started posting a few recipes that work for different blood types. Dr. Peter J. D’Adamo has a wonderful book out, ‘Cook Right 4 Your Type,’ which explains the importance of eating right for your type and also is stacked full of great recipes to suit. Here are examples of some of the more recent recipes up on the site… Vegetable Fritters, Apple-Curry Lamb (Leftover) Stew, Indian Lamb Stew with Spinach,  Peanut or Almond Chicken and Tuna Steak Marinated in Lemon and Garlic.

Hydration - Water is involved with every metabolic process in our body, such as electrical exchange, biochemical pathway and physical and mental actions. Water is the element which extracts nutrients from food, transports them to the blood, replenishes vital fluids and helps to detoxify the body… continue reading here

Free Radicals, Antioxidants and Disease - Free Radicals are atoms or groups of atoms with an odd (unpaired) number of electrons and can be formed when oxygen interacts with certain molecules. Once formed these highly reactive radicals can start a chain reaction, like dominoes. Their chief danger comes from the damage they can do when they react with important cellular components such as DNA, or the cell membrane… continue reading here

The Essentials - To maintain health, we need a diversity of vitamins, minerals, bioflavonoids, and other nutrients. Although we receive many of these nutrients from our diets, it’s impractical and virtually impossible to obtain an optimal dose through diet alone… continue reading here

Fast Facts: Positive Reaction Bandwrist-bands

This year a friend of mine pointed out that I had the habit of saying ‘everythink’ or ‘anythink’ rather than everything and anything. Up until that point I had never realised what I was saying and while I found it quite funny, I decided that I wanted to get a grip on my ‘g’s. Have you ever tried to change a hard wired habit like that? It can be tough! Once you have identified something that you would like to change about yourself, for example, becoming someone who creates better outcomes (like eating better and exercising) or someone who manages their emotions rather than someone who is managed or someone who is more aware, more evolved, more balanced and more in control, you might want to consider wearing a wrist band as a reminder. You can call it whatever you want, for example, your positive reaction band or calm band, as long as it is used in the right way. The band is symbolic, it is a constant physical reminder of your commitment to do, be and create a better life. For some people, a band is a simple tool that will help them stay aware and conscious.

Live the Life You’ve Imagined:

“the successful person has the habit of doing the things failures don’t like to do. They don’t like doing them either necessarily. But their disliking is subordinated to the strength of their purpose.” - E. M. Gray

When I began Personal Training, I worked at Fitness First in Miranda. Every day I would see this lady, who was quite over-weight, come in and train for hours. One day I decided to chat to her and find out exactly what her goals were and how she was progressing. I often spoke to the regulars that came in, I knew many of them were not interested in personal training but I was always happy to offer bits and pieces of help and advice.

Within Fitness First, personal trainers drum up most of their business by approaching gym members and offering a complimentary session, in which they get half an hour to ‘wow’ a potential new client. This lady had obviously seen many ‘wow’ sessions, she was quite rude and abrupt when I first approached her. Basically, she wanted weight loss. I didn’t get much more out of her that day than that.

Over the course of the next couple of weeks, I continued to say hello to her and speak to her as much as possible, then one day she opened up. She was extremely frustrated; she had been training hard, everyday for a couple of months and yet not a single kilo had budged. And she was angry at me and everyone else in the gym who she considered to be ‘skinny,’ (I hate being called skinny!) I asked her about the style of training she had been doing, her nutritional habits and also about her lifestyle and stressors. While the type of training she was doing was totally inappropriate for her, she had a problem with food… a big problem with food. The main part of that problem with food was that 1. she believed she didn’t need to change what she ate to loose weight and 2. she wasn’t prepared to change what she ate in order loose weight because it was ‘too hard!’

Now, back to E. M. Gray’s quote… For those who know me well, they know that I didn’t wake up one morning looking the way I do. I am a reformed, emotional binge eater, and I’ve had my fare share of health issues to over come. What got me from where I was to where I am now, was a single decision. And that decision was to change. I wasn’t happy with who I was at that point, which I realised was the outcome of my thoughts, actions and beliefs, so I needed to change my thoughts, actions and beliefs and bring them into alignment with who I did want to be. It’s not that I suddenly disliked chocolate, ice cream, cakes and all the other yummy things I could get my hands on, though I wish it could have been that easy! It’s that I decided to make a positive change and that meant making healthy eating choices and saying ‘no’ to unhealthy foods. Was it hard? Yes! Was it worth it? Definitely!

Everyone has the power to create change in their lives, its not always going to be easy, but if it is for something that you truly desire, than the hard work is definitely worth it. When it comes to health, fitness and wellbeing goals, there is a lot to know before undertaking any health or fitness regime, as we are all genetically different, have different goals and different lifestyles, which makes each persons approach unique, and that’s what Shine Wellbeing Solutions is here for! So as the famous Nike quote goes ‘Just do it!’

Sacred Stone Therapy: With Azza from Egyptian Goddess

I asked Azza, a wonderful friend of mine, to give us some information on sacred stone therapy. Often when we experience a recurring injury, it is as a result of the body trying to communicate with us or because there is an emotional blockage. Obviously we experience tight muscles from structural issues, overuse or from a strain, but if practices that focus solely on clearing the physical tightness are not working then it is often best to look beyond that to the emotions being held in that part of the body.

Sacred stone therapy is a form of body work (massage) based on the Ancient Indian healing tradition, Ayurveda, using organic oil and Aromatherapy to treat the sacred temple that is our body. The therapy is extremely relaxing and rejuvenating as well as healing on a very deep level. The stones that are used are natural and have naturally tumbled on the sea shores of New Zealand, unlike the tumbled Basalt stones that are generally used in Spas. Using natural stones is far more beneficial as they are full of natural minerals and crystals that absorb muscular and energy blockages in our body.

Benefits of Stone Healinghot-stone-massage

  • Irons out tight muscles, softening the tissue with heat.
  • Sedates the Central Nervous System when the stones are laid upon the spinal column.
  • Increases circulation and vitality.
  • Improves the tone of visceral organs
  • Aids in elimination by stimulating peristalsis.
  • Relieves sinus pressure
  • Reduces inflammatory conditions with the use of cool stones.
  • Aids Pranic energy or Chi to the session since stones are living swirling microcosms of energy.
  • Grounds the body by reducing the wind element within the body.
  • Increases kinaesthetic awareness of the body by alternating textured and smooth stones.
  • Incorporates Sound, Vibration.
  • Residue of sea salt from sea stones purifies and balances the electromagnetic field.
  • Reduces cellulite dramatically when used with Castor oil.
  • Gently ex-foliates the skin, enhancing Liver function.
